NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (8-17, 3-10 MVC) fell in four sets to Northern Iowa (18-7, 13-0 MVC).
How it Happened
The Bruins fell behind early in the first.
Mialee Dabbelt recorded a kill to bring Belmont within two at 8-10. The outside recorded two more kills down the stretch before UNI would take set one 17-25.
Belmont came out strong in the second set.
Alexia Smollen added a kill and block as the Bruins went up 4-1. UNI went on a run midway through the set to take a three-point lead. Belmont went on a run of their own sparked by a kill from
Emily Warmenhoven to even the score at 16 all. The Bruins continued to push and with a kill from
Lucy Kay, the team extended the lead at 20-17.
Bella Mathis and Warmenhoven teamed up for a huge block to give the Bruins set two 25-21.
With the set score tied, the Panthers fought to gain momentum in the third set. The Bruins made a 4-0 run down the stretch to bring the score within five at 14-19. UNI would go on to claim the third 17-25.
UNI took an early lead in the fourth.
Lilly Lutz added a pair of aces late in the set for the Bruins. The Panthers eventually took the fourth set and match 14-25.
