Men's Basketball Defeats Maryville (TN)

Walker Leads Five Bruins in Double Figures

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Behind a career-high 19 points from Isaiah Walker, Belmont University men's basketball defeated Maryville (TN), 93-70, Monday night from the Curb Event Center to open the 2024-25 college basketball season.
 
Walker went 8-for-11 from the field – including three 3-point field goals – and added five rebounds and three assists.
 
Maryville (TN), a nationally-ranked NCAA Division III program which entered having won 14 consecutive games, showcased pace and purpose throughout the game.
 
The Bruins took control in the second half as Brody Peebles scored six of Belmont's first 10 points after halftime.
 
Belmont held Maryville (TN) to 29 percent shooting in the second half – including an eight-minute stretch without a field goal.
 
A Tyler Lundblade 3-pointer made the score 63-51 with 12:58 remaining.
 
Belmont got production from several its newcomers, including Sam Orme who showcased a variety of skills as part of the Bruins' 53-point second half.
 
Aidan Braccia made a 3-pointer in the closing moments as Belmont outscored Maryville (TN), 39-11, off the bench.
 
Walker led five Bruins in double figures.
 
Orme had 15 points and five rebounds in his Belmont debut. Lundblade scored 14, while Peebles added 12.
 
Brigham Rogers had 10 points, all in the first half.
 
Jonathan Pierre led Belmont with nine rebounds.
 
Reed Kemp led Maryville (TN) with 24 points.
 
Belmont has won 20 of its last 21 home openers.
 
Belmont (1-0) returns to game action Friday, Nov. 8 vs. Furman. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. from the Curb Event Center.

Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 19 Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is the only NCAA Division I program to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of its existence. Belmont is the only NCAA Division I institution in America whose men's and women's basketball programs have won 20 or more games in nine consecutive seasons.
