COLUMBIA, S.C. --- Belmont University (4-2) opened their weekend series with #21 South Carolina (6-0) Friday evening. The game, which included a two-hour weather delay, ended with the Gamecocks on top, 8-1.

- Will Pryor struck out five Gamecocks in his start
- Blake Ciuffetelli pitched three innings in relief, with three strikeouts, and one earned run
- Zach Hernandez went 2.2 innings in his second outing of the season
- Landon Godsey reached bask four times: three walks and a hit-by-pitch
South Carolina jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. After the leadoff man singled, Parker Noland hit a two-run home run. A two-out single from Dylan Brewer with the bases loaded led to two more runs crossing. South Carolina led 4-0 at the end of the inning.
The game went into a weather delay during the bottom of the third inning. It cut starting pitcher
Will Pryor's outing short, as the sophomore had five strikeouts.
The Gamecocks tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the third. A two-out single from Brewer followed by a double from Gavin Casas gave South Carolina a 6-0 lead.
Belmont's first hit came in the fourth inning.
Max Jones doubled to left field with two outs.
Brodey Heaton singled the next at-bat. Belmont stranded both runners to end the inning.
South Carolina added another run in the fifth inning. Casas singled and drove in his third run of the night.
Belmont had an opportunity to claw back in the sixth inning.
Pete Daniel led off with a single on the first pitch of the inning. Landon Godesy walked, and
Mason Landers dropped a single into shallow center field. Belmont scored with two outs, after
Max Blessinger worked an 0-2 count full, and drew a walk. It was the only run of the game for Belmont.
Zach Hernandez worked out of a jam in the home half. After replacing
Blake Ciuffetelli with one out and two runners on, Hernandez got the next two Gamecocks to fly out.
South Carolina scored one more time in the seventh inning.
The Gamecocks won the first game of the weekend series, 8-1.
Belmont and #21 South Carolina return to action tomorrow afternoon. First pitch from Founders Park is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT. All game information and streaming options are available at
