NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont (9-7) and UAB (7-8) wrapped up their three-game series at E.S. Rose Park, on Sunday afternoon. Belmont won the previous two games in the series, but couldn't complete the sweep. UAB won Sunday's contest, 7-3.
Bruin Bullets
UAB scored three runs in the first inning. Both a leadoff walk followed by a hit batter came around to score. A two-out RBI double from Tyler Harrington made it a 3-0 ball game. The Blazers added another run in the second on a double steal. UAB led 4-0 going into the bottom of the second.
Pete Daniel jumpstarted the Bruins' offense in the second, with a one-out double to right field.
Max Blessinger drove Daniel in on a triple to the right-field corner.
Michael Lareau hit a ground ball to the right side, which scored Blessinger. Belmont cut their deficit in half, as they trailed 4-2.
Joe Ruzicka allowed three hits in his final three innings on the bump. His sixth strikeout in the fifth inning set a new season high for the righty.
After a Belmont pitching change that brought in
Hank Liss, UAB's Tyler Waugh hit a two-run home run to right field. The Blazers increased their lead to 6-2.
The Bruins scratched across another run in the bottom of the seventh. Daniel led off the inning with his second hit of the day. A one-out error by the second baseman put Lareau on first, and advanced Daniel to second. A walk to Slaughter in the next at-bat loaded the bases for Belmont.
Mason Landers drew a four-pitch walk with two outs that brought Daniel home. The Bruins couldn't bring any other runs home. The Bruins trailed 6-3 going into the eighth.
The Blazers scored one more run in the top of the eighth. An error on a potential inning-ending double play ball by Daniel at shortstop allowed for the Blazers' seventh run to score.
UAB won the series finale, 7-3. Belmont won their second weekend series of the season, 2-1.
