NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (14-6) rounded out the weekend with a doubleheader against UIC (7-17). The Bruins topped the Flames in both games to finish the weekend 4-0.
Game 1 (2-0)
Belmont got on the board early in the first game of the day.
Emma Barnes singled through the left side in the Bruins' first at bat. Hughes later added a double to put runners in scoring position on second and third.
Brenna Blume eventually recorded an RBI single to bring Hughes home. The Bruins took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
The Bruins maintained a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth.
Lauren Luciani stepped into the batter's box and singled to left. Barnes later recorded and RBI double to send Luciani across home plate. The play by Barnes extended Belmont's lead to 2-0 heading into the final inning.
Maya Johnson continued with a strong showing in the circle to hold the Flames scoreless and secure a 2-0 win for the Bruins. Johnson recorded 11 strikeouts while only allowing five hits and two walks through seven innings.
Game 2 (1-0)
The Bruins continued their strong defensive effort in game two forcing the Flames to go three up, three down in the first and second inning.
With bases loaded in the bottom of the first, the Bruins were unable to put a run on the board. Belmont recorded several hits throughout game two but struggled to bring runs home.
The game remained knotted at 0-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh. With extra innings on the line and two outs on the board, Blume stepped up and drove in a walk-off single to give the Bruins a 1-0 win.

- Emma Barnes recorded three hits, one double, and an RBI on eight at bats.
- Brenna Blume added four hits, one double, and 2 RBI on six at bats.
- Nicole Hughes tallied three hits, two doubles, and one run.
- Maya Johnson collected the win in the circle for game one. The pitcher tallied 11 strikeouts giving her 54 this season. Johnson improves to 6-2 this season.
- Emma Summers secured a win in the circle in game two. Summers moves to 3-2 this season after recording five strikeouts and only allowing two hits.
