NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont (11-10) and #3 Vanderbilt (19-3) played in the All 4 Lou Showdown Tuesday night at First Horizon Park. Belmont kept things close and battled to the end, but the early scoring from the Commodores was enough to win the game, 3-1.
Bruin Bullets
- Blake Ciuffetelli made his first start as a Bruin and recorded a season-high five strikeouts. The lefty tossed five innings and allowed two runs on four hits.
- Mason Landers hit a solo home run in the eighth inning. The senior has homered in four consecutive games and tied for a team-high with six.
- Sam Slaughter recorded a career-high three hits.
- Caleb Guisewite pitched a season-high two innings.
- Ty Allen threw a scoreless eighth inning, in his second-straight relief appearance.
- Belmont held Vanderbilt to a season-low three runs. The Commodores scored three runs one other time this season, against Houston eleven games ago on March 2nd.
- The two-run loss marks the smallest win margin for the Commodores in their six games against an MVC team this season.
Vanderbilt scored the first run of the game in the second inning. Logan Poteet hit a solo home run to left field. The Commodores added another run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Davis Diaz.
Belmont had opportunities with runners in scoring position in the fifth and sixth innings, but failed to convert. The Bruins had the bases loaded with one out in the sixth.
Blake Ciuffetelli got out of a tight spot in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and second with one out, Ciuffetelli got Diaz to fly out, and struck out Espinal to leave both runners stranded.
The Commodores tacked on another run in the seventh. A two-out RBI single from Alan Espinal scored Diaz from second. Belmont trailed 3-0 heading into the eighth.
Mason Landers led off the eighth with his sixth home run of the season. The solo shot extended Landers' home run streak to four games. The long ball gave Belmont some late-inning life.
Belmont tried to cook something up in their last at-bats.
Pete Daniel reached first base on a two-out error. Slaughter singled the next at-bat, for a career-high third time in the game. The Bruins came up empty-handed in the ninth, and lost the game, 3-1.
