NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball players
Cade Tyson and
Isaiah Walker have been named to the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team, the league office announced Monday.

Tyson holds a 3.58 grade-point average in sport administration. The Monroe, North Carolina native ranks among MVC leaders in 13 statistical categories, including scoring, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and 3-point field goals.

Walker holds a 3.75 grade-point average in business administration. The Wyoming, Ohio native has 62 career game appearances and ranks among team leaders in rebounds, assists and steals this season. Walker was also named to the Missouri Valley Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team in 2023.

The criteria for the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CSC (College Sports Communicators) standards for Academic All-America nominations. Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically and must be enrolled at their institution at the time of nomination either as undergraduates or graduate students. [The 12-month residency requirement for undergraduate transfers is no longer required.] An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), and a graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) as both an undergraduate and a grad student unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don't have an established graduate GPA.

Belmont University men's basketball has been a postseason fixture the last two decades, including nine berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 20 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (Gonzaga, Kansas).
