NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont (7-6) hosted Kennesaw State (7-6) Wednesday night at E.S. Rose Park. It was the first meeting between the former ASUN opponents in Nashville since 2011. The Owls kept the Bruins' bats at bay, while capitalizing on free passes issued by Belmont pitchers. Kennesaw State won, 15-2.
Bruin Bullets
- Sam Slaughter went 1-for-2, with a solo home run in the fourth inning. This was Slaughter's second home run of the season, and has hit a long ball in Belmont's last two games. He scored both of Belmont's runs in the game.
- Jack Rando went 2-for-3 and drove in Belmont's first run of the game in the second inning. He has at least one RBI in three of his last five games.
- Caleb Guisewite retired all three batters faced in the seventh inning.
Kennesaw State scored in the first inning on a tough ground ball to shortstop
Pete Daniel. Belmont was able to respond in the second inning.
Sam Slaughter led off with a walk, and
Pete Daniel later joined him on base with two outs. Rando smacked a ball through the left side of the infield, which scored Slaughter with ease.
Kennesaw State responded with five more runs in the next two innings. Slaughter led off the home half of the fourth for Belmont with his second home run of the season. After hitting his first on Sunday vs. Little Rock, the senior seems to be finding his groove, since becoming more featured in the starting lineup.
Belmont's pitching staff struggled to keep the Owls off the bases. Following a run in the fifth, Kennesaw State scored eight runs in the sixth. Belmont couldn't rally, and fell by a score of 15-2.
