NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (12-6) opened the weekend at home with a doubleheader versus Iona (3-9). The Bruins held the Gaels scoreless in both games to finish the day 2-0.
Game 1 (6-0)
Belmont had a strong start in game one.
Emma Barnes walked in the bottom of the first followed by a single from
Baie Ensio to put runners on first and second.
Nicole Hughes stepped up to the plate and recorded an RBI double to put Belmont on the board. In the next at bat,
Grace Gressly added a sacrifice fly to bring in another run for Belmont. The Bruins took an early 2-0 lead in the first.
Belmont scored in the bottom of the second with an RBI single from Ensio.
The Bruins continued to apply pressure defensively to maintain a 3-0 lead heading into the sixth inning. Belmont got hot again in the bottom of the sixth.
Lauren Luciani entered to pinch hit and recorded an RBI triple.
Ella Bertucci followed with an RBI double. Ensio later added another RBI single to extend the Bruins lead to 6-0 heading into the final inning.
Iona went three up, three down in the top of the seventh. With the final three outs, the Bruins claimed game one 6-0. This victory marks Belmont's first home win of the season.
Game 2 (8-0, 5 inn.)
Both teams went three up, three down to start game two of the doubleheader.
The Bruin bats started to get hot in the bottom of the second. With a single from
Abi Ledbetter and two walks, Belmont had bases loaded with only one out.
Emily Cockrill drove in three runs for the Bruins off a 3 RBI double to left center. Ensio later entered the batter's box and recorded a 2 RBI double. The Bruins took a commanding 5-0 lead heading into the third.
Belmont maintained their lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Hughes added another 2 RBI single followed by a sacrifice fly by Gressly. The Bruins extended their lead to 8-0 at the end of the fourth.
The Bruins were able to hold the Gaels scoreless and secure an 8-0 run rule win.

- Baie Ensio recorded five hits, two runs, and 4 RBI.
- Nicole Hughes added two hits and 3 RBI.
- Emily Cockrill tallied two hits, one run, and 3 RBI.
- Alex Clesi secured a win in the circle in game one. Clesi pitched five innings while only allowing three hits and recording four strikeouts. The senior is now 3-2 in the circle this season.
- Ellie Giles collected the win in the circle for game two of the doubleheader. Giles recorded two strikeouts while only allowing two hits through four innings. The pitcher moves to 2-0 this season.
