KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (27-16, 13-8 MVC) took on no. 3 Tennessee (35-8, 14-4 SEC) where the Bruins fell 1-9 (6 inn.).
How it Happened
Belmont got one Bruin on base in the top of the first with a walk. The Bruins were unable to record a hit leaving a runner stranded. Tennessee took the batter's box and added the first run of the day in the bottom of the first to take a 0-1 early lead.
Abi Ledbetter doubled to right for the Bruins' first hit of the day. The Belmont bats saw some life with Ledbetter's swing but were still unable to bring a run home. The Vols went on to add two more runs in the bottom of the second.
Belmont added another hit off a single from
Emma Barnes in the top of the third. The Bruins continued to struggle bringing in a run remaining scoreless. Tennessee continued their hot start with four more runs in the third to extend their lead at 0-7 heading into the fourth.
Both teams were unable to bring in a run in the fourth.
With an error from the Vols, the Bruins were able to bring in a run cutting the lead to 1-7 at the end of five.
Tennessee went on to add two runs in the bottom of the sixth resulting in a 1-9 loss for Belmont.
