NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (27-17, 13-9 MVC) fell to Bradley (26-23, 13-9 MVC) in game one of the weekend series.
How it Happened
Belmont came out strong from the first pitch.
Maya Johnson quickly tallied two strikeouts as the Bruins forced the Braves to a three up, three down inning in the first.
Nicole Hughes took the batter's box in the bottom of the first and drove in a home run to give Belmont an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second,
Brenna Blume doubled to left field. The Bruins were unable to bring the catcher home leaving the score at 1-0 heading into the third.
Bradley capitalized on a few Belmont errors to take a 1-3 lead at the end of the third.
Baie Ensio walked to start the fourth followed by a single from Blume to put two Bruins on base. Despite the brief momentum, Belmont wasn't able to bring in a run.
The Bruins saw a three up, three down inning in the fifth keeping the score at 1-3.
Bradley put another run on the board in the top of the sixth. Blume responded with an RBI double to bring Belmont within two at 2-4 heading into the final inning.
The Braves tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh extending their lead to four. Bradley walked
Emma Barnes and
Abi Ledbetter followed by Ensio hitting a single to load the bases for Belmont. Blume was then walked resulting in an RBI to give the Bruins their third run of the night. Belmont was unable to finish their attempt to comeback and ultimately fell 3-6.
Senior Day
The program will honor its five seniors prior to first pitch on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
