NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont (16-15, 4-4 MVC) and Evansville (14-16, 4-4 MVC) faced off in game two of their weekend series at E.S. Rose Park. Evansville's early scoring backed by Donovan Shultz's seven-inning start led the Purple Aces into the win column, 8-3.

  • Blake Barton went 2-for-4 with and an RBI double in the ninth inning.
  • Sam Kirkpatrick drove in two runs on a double in the seventh inning.
  • Cade Rogers reached base and scored twice.
  • Zach Hernandez faced four batters and struck out two in the eighth inning.
  • Ty Allen threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning and recorded one strikeout.
The Purple Aces had three home runs in the game. Brendan Hord hit a three-run homer to left field in the second inning. Mark Shallenberger hit two home runs in the game, both of which were two-run shots in the fifth and sixth innings. Harrison Taubert had an RBI double in the sixth inning. Evansville led 8-0 after six innings.
 
Belmont's bench provided their first runs of the game. Following a one-out walk to Max Jones, Cade Rogers singled up the middle. Sam Kirkpatrick drove both Jones and Rogers in on a double to left-center field. Belmont got on the board, 8-2.
 
 Zach Hernandez had his most effective outing of the year. The freshman faced four batters in the eighth inning and recorded two strikeouts.
 
Ty Allen followed with a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a punchout.
 
The Bruins scored one more time in the ninth inning. Rogers drew a two-out walk and advanced to second base, on a wild pitch in Blake Barton's at-bat. Barton snuck a double down the right-field line to score Rogers. Belmont failed to mount a comeback and lost, 8-3.
