Men's Tennis Sweeps Eastern Illinois Saturday Afternoon on the Road

Bruins Win Fifth Straight, Remain Unbeaten in the Horizon League

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Claiming its fifth-straight victory and moving to 3-0 in Horizon League play, the Belmont University men's tennis team had very little trouble at Eastern Illinois Saturday with a 7-0 road sweep. The Bruins (8-7, 3-0 Horizon) dominated the host Panthers (3-17, 2-1 Horizon) in singles action after taking the doubles point at the Darling Courts in Charleston, Illinois.

Nobody across Belmont's singles lineup gave up more than four games in six straight-set wins. In doubles, the Bruins secured the opening point with triumphs at the second and third positions.

Senior Alfred Wallin teamed up with junior Ian Cruz at No. 2 doubles for a 6-2 win over Eastern Illinois' Cameron Slabbert and Zach White. At the third doubles spot, senior Tomas Luis and junior Gabriel Sardo defeated the Panthers' Pau Riera and William Hays 6-3.

Eastern Illinois' lone bright spot on the day was a 6-4 win by Tyler Carlin and Thomas Wallace at No. 1 doubles.

Cruz conceded only one game in the first set at third singles, handling Carlin 6-1, 6-0. Wallin was a 6-2, 6-0 winner against Slabbert at the top singles spot, while senior Niklas von Hellens played at No. 4 singles and grabbed a 6-1, 6-1 victory versus White.

Luis topped Riera 6-1, 6-2 at the second singles position and Sardo dismissed Wallace 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Junior Ruben Busch earned his first dual match singles win at Belmont as he cruised past Hays 6-2, 6-2 at the sixth spot.
