NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball legend Grayson Murphy ('22) has been named to the Los Angeles Lakers 2024 NBA Summer League roster, the organization announced Tuesday.

Murphy will be on the Los Angeles Lakers roster for the California Classic in San Francisco on July 6-10 and the NBA 2K25 Summer League in Las Vegas July 12-22.

He joins former Belmont teammate Ben Sheppard in the NBA Summer League.  Sheppard will play for the Indiana Pacers, after turning in a strong rookie season.

Murphy has drawn comparisons to Sheppard's Indiana teammate, T.J. McConnell.

Murphy was one of the top players in Germany this past season, averaging 13.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and a league-leading 2.6 steals per game for Dresden. He also shot 52 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point distance.

Murphy established himself as one of the greatest players in Ohio Valley Conference history as his record-setting play led Belmont to four conference championships.

The dynamic point guard became the Ohio Valley Conference all-time career leader in assists (775) and steals (281), was a three-time All-OVC First Team and two-time OVC Defensive Player of the Year honoree as he led the Bruins to a 104-25 record during his distinguished career.

The Franklin, Tennessee native completed his Belmont career third among all active players in NCAA Division I men's basketball in assists and sixth in steals.

A two-time Lou Henson Mid-Major All-American, the 6-2 point guard was one of only six active players with multiple career triple-doubles.

Murphy was the only player in college basketball over the last 30 seasons to put up over 1,000 points, 800 rebounds, 700 assists and 250 steals.

The floor general had nine points, six rebounds and six assists in Belmont's NCAA Tournament victory over Temple in 2019.

Murphy also recorded the first triple-double of Belmont's NCAA Division I era.

He was named NABC All-District three consecutive seasons (2020, 2021, 2022).

Murphy joins Bronny James and Dalton Knecht on the Lakers' Summer League roster.
