Women’s Soccer Stuns Tennessee Tech in Comeback Victory

Ava Labocki Scores Twice in Belmont’s 3-1 Win

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University women's soccer (3-5) traveled to Tennessee Tech (0-6-3) on Thursday night for their final midweek non-conference match. After trailing 1-0 early in the second half, the Bruins rattled off three unanswered goals in an eight-minute span to win, 3-1.

  • Ava Labocki scored her first goal of the night in the 79th minute, assisted by Kennedy Bernsen off a corner kick. The goal tied the match at 1-1 and sparked Belmont's offensive surge.

 What's Bruin
  • Labocki is the first Bruin to score two goals in a match since Leah Firsdon at Evansville on Oct. 16, 2022. She has scored three goals in the last two matches. The last Bruin to score goals in consecutive matches was Maci Pekmezian ('24) against Illinois State (Sept. 28, 2023) and Evansville (Oct. 1, 2023).
  • Kennedy Bernsen recorded an assist for the second consecutive match; she assisted on Labocki's game-winning goal against North Alabama on Sept. 8. The last time a Bruin recorded an assist in successive matches was Summer Curtis against Southeast Missouri State (Sept. 26, 2021) and Austin Peay (Sept. 30, 2021).
  • Kate Virtel scored her second career goal.
  • Sydney Jones set a new career high with eight saves. Her previous career high was six set on Sept. 8 against North Alabama.
  • Belmont's three goals were the most in a match since Sept. 22, 2022, against Murray State.
  • The last time Belmont scored three goals in a half was Oct. 6, 2019, against Jacksonville State.
  • Belmont's third win of the season marks the most non-conference wins for the program since 2021.
