SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Belmont University Volleyball Program (5-7, 0-0 MVC) faced tournament host South Dakota State (11-0, 0-0 Summit) on Saturday where the Jackrabbits swept the Bruins.
How it Happened
Belmont took an early 8-5 lead in the first off a block from
Alivia Keegan and
Bella Mathis. South Dakota State took the lead over midway through the set. A kill from Keegan brought the Bruins within five at 15-20. The Jackrabbits eventually took the first set 18-25.
SDSU jumped out ahead early in set two. A kill from
Brooke Gilleland later evened the score at 11 all. The Jackrabbits then regained control to claim a 19-25 set two.
The Bruins put together a competitive third set. Belmont raced to a 12-5 lead behind three kills from
Brenna Kauffeld and a pair of kills from Gilleland and Keegan. SDSU started to close the gap before Kauffeld tallied another kill to maintain Belmont's lead at 16-13. Both teams continued to put up big swings before SDSU eventually pulled away to take a close 22-25 third set.
