NORMAL, Ill. - - Belmont University women's soccer (5-5-1, 2-0 MVC) traveled to Illinois State (2-6-2, 0-1-1 MVC) on Sunday afternoon. Goals from
Eliza Paisley and
Wagoner Towsen, and four saves from
Sydney Jones resulted in Belmont's second shutout win of the week, 2-0.
Head Coach Kelsey Cameron
"I'm really proud of the team today," said Head Coach
Kelsey Cameron. "We had a slow start in the first half and didn't do a great job of winning first and second balls. We created a few chances and Eliza had a great finish to put us ahead going into halftime."
Cameron saw a difference in the team's second-half play highlighting second-ball control and commanding the match. "We did a great job of continuing to push for that second goal and then finish out the game without allowing Illinois State to create much," said Cameron. "Though there's a lot of work still to be done, this is a strong start and a huge six-point weekend to open up MVC play!"
Scoring Action
- Eliza Paisley scored her first career goal late in the first half. The junior defender played a deflected ball sent into the box from Anay Garcia and found the top-right corner.
- Wagoner Towsen rocketed a ball from 35 yards deep past a leaping goalkeeper for her first career goal. Towsen's goal in the 64th minute solidified Belmont's lead.
