NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - The Missouri Valley Conference announced Tuesday afternoon two Bruins took home MVC Weekly Awards for Sept. 24.
Eliza Paisley was named Defender of the Week and
Sydney Jones won Goalkeeper of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Paisley scored her first career goal in Belmont's 2-0 road win against Illinois State on Sept. 22. A member of Belmont's backline, Paisley and the Bruins held Evansville and Illinois State to a season-low eight shots. The junior has started in nine matches and played 593 minutes.
Jones - the reigning MVC Goalkeeper of the Week - continued her dominance in goal during her first week of conference action. Her nine saves led all MVC goalkeepers for the second straight week; she recorded two clean sheets with 9 saves. Jones is tied for second in the MVC with 46 saves and fourth with 4.60 saves per match.
Both Paisley and Jones played crucial roles in Belmont's two shutout victories to open MVC play. The Bruins put their five-match unbeaten streak on the line against UIC on Sunday, Sept. 29. Kickoff from E.S. Rose Park is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+. Belmont will honor the 2008 Hall of Fame team and all Belmont alumni as part of their annual Alumni Day tradition.
