Jonathan Pierre Named MVC Newcomer of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball forward Jonathan Pierre was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Pierre nearly averaged a 20-point double-double this past week as Belmont defeated UIC and lost a two-possession game at Northern Iowa.

He averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.

The Hallandale, Florida native had 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals vs. UIC, including a basket with 15 seconds remaining which increased Belmont's lead to three points.

Pierre had 19 points and 11 rebounds at Northern Iowa. 

He ranks among MVC leaders in eight statistical categories, including first in defensive rebounding, seventh in assists and 14^th in points per game. The 6-9 forward has five double-doubles to his credit.

This marks the second time Pierre has been named MVC Newcomer of the Week.
