NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's golf team announces the signing of two golfers from Tennessee for the 2026-27 season, Leo Froio and Jackson Whaley
Leo Froio is a Franklin, Tennessee product who prepped at Battle Ground Academy. Ranked #5 in Tennessee's 2026 Class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, he qualified for two State Championships, earning third place finishes both times. Leo also earned TSWA All-State honors in 2024 and All-Midstate honors from
The Tennessean twice.Â
On the Tennessee Sneds Junior Tour in 2025, Froio earned one win, four top-five finishes, and nine top-20 showings.   He also was a two-time selection for the Tennessee Junior Cup and was recently one of eight golfers selected to represent Tennessee for 2026 as a part of the USGA's National Development Program. Â

Daniel DeLuca, Belmont's head coach. "Leo is a very accomplished junior player and has a tremendous work ethic. He has demonstrated he can compete at a very high level and can have a huge impact on our university and our golf program."
Jackson Whaley is a native of Collierville, Tennessee and prepped at Collierville High School. Ranked #6 in Tennessee's 2026 Class by Junior Golf Scoreboard, he is a two-time All-State selection and earned Memphis All-Metro honors four times. Jackson also finished third at the 2025 TSSAA State Championship last month.
On the Tennessee Sneds Junior Tour in 2025, Whaley earned six top-20 finishes in 11 events. He also was a three-time participant in the Tennessee Junior Cup and reached the final 16 at the 2025 Tennessee Match Play Championship.
"We are excited to have Jackson join our program," said DeLuca. "Jackson plays at a very high level and is not scared of big moments. He has the ability to quickly move on to the next shot and plays with a lot of maturity. He is a great addition to our program and has a bright future ahead of him here as a Bruin."
During the fall season. the men's golf team earned three top-five finishes in six events, with a season best third place finish at Ball State.  They will open their 2026 spring season on February 23-24 at the Gulf Coast Collegiate in New Orleans.
