Bruins Outpace Brown in Second Half for First Win of 2025-26

Women’s Basketball Doubles Up Bears 48-24 in Second Half for 83-61 Home-Opening Triumph

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In its home opener Friday night inside the Curb Event Center in the Music City, the Belmont University women's basketball team posted 48 second-half points to defeat Brown University 83-61 for the Bruins' first victory of the season. Belmont (1-1) doubled the Bears (0-1) across the second 20 minutes of play and outscored Brown 27-9 in the fourth quarter.
 
Six different Bruins reached double figures, and Belmont forced nearly 20 turnovers, came up with 14 steals and totaled over 40 rebounds. The Bruins scored 24 points off the Bears' offensive miscues and cashed in on 20 of their 25 free throws (80 percent).
 
The sophomore trio of guards Quinn Eubank and Sanaa Tripp and forward Hilary Fuller combined for 39 points and 23 rebounds as Eubank recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 12 points and career-best 10 boards. Fuller also reached career highs with a team-high 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting and eight rebounds. Tripp provided 10 points and five boards in 21 minutes off the bench.
 
Graduate guard Tuti Jones put together an outstanding performance, going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc en route to totaling 14 points, six rebounds, a team-high four assists and a game-best six steals.
 
Junior guard Jailyn Banks came away with a career-high five steals and scored 13, while graduate guard Avery Stricklnd tallied 11 points, distributed three assists and claimed a pair of takeaways.
 
Belmont shot 45.7 percent (16-of-35) in the second half, including shooting 61.1 percent (11-of-18) in the final quarter. The Bruins connected on five of their eight three-point attempts across the closing 10 minutes and finished on a 33-10 run.
 
Tripp scored all 10 of her points in the second half and Jones also had 10 points in the half, to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
 
Belmont limited Brown to 25 percent (8-for-32) shooting, including 1-for-9 from deep, in the second half and the Bears were held to 3-for-17 (17.6 percent) from the field in the fourth quarter.
 
The Bruins trailed by as much as five late in the first half and were down 37-35 at halftime after shooting just 30.3 percent (10-of-33).
 
Despite Brown beginning 5-for-7 from the field, Belmont closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run. Threes from Strickland and Eubank gave the Bruins a 23-19 lead after the opening quarter. After the Bears shot 53.3 percent (8-of-15) in the first quarter, Brown shot 40 percent in the second frame and held a 46.7 percent (14-of-30) shooting clip at the break. Fuller (10) and Strickland (8) combined for 18 of Belmont's 35 first-half points.
 
A Strickland three ignited a 9-0 Bruin scoring run to start the second half with a Fuller free throw giving Belmont a 44-37 lead. However, the Bruins weren't able to pull away just yet. Banks scored on a layup following a steal by junior guard Kensley Feltner to keep Belmont in front by six at 50-44 with 3:58 to go in the third quarter. From there, the Bears went on a 7-0 run to take a 51-50 lead with three minutes left in the third.
 
After over a minute of scoreless action, Tripp got to the free-throw line to begin the Bruins' dominant closing run. Fuller collected a Tripp missed three-pointer and put it in with a short jumper as the third-quarter clock expired, giving Belmont a 56-52 edge heading into the final stanza. Tripp nailed a three to get the Bruins going in the fourth quarter and Belmont rarely missed the rest of the way. A driving layup by Tripp at 61-55 sparked a game-changing 19-2 Bruin run, which was capped by a Feltner triple that made it 80-57 with 2:24 remaining.
 
Tripp splashed in Belmont's 11th three with 1:21 left to cap the night. Brown starting forward Alyssa Moreland scored a game-high 22 points on 9-for-18 shooting and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. The Bears also got 13 points from starting guard Olivia Young and 10 boards from forward Aima Ofunrein. Of Note
  • The win is the Bruins' first against an Ivy League school.
  • Belmont is 1-1 against Brown.
  • The Bruins' 14 steals are the most since their Feb. 27 home win over Southern Illinois.
  • Ninth-year head coach Bart Brooks (199-69) is only one win from 200 for his career.
  • Freshman guard Kate McGinnis (Kimberly, Wis.) made her collegiate debut.
  • Belmont is 115-17 (.871) in the Curb since the start of the 2015-16 season.
