ST. LOUIS – For the third time in her illustrious career, Belmont University women's basketball's
Tuti Jones has been named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week. The Graduate guard led all scorers and registered her fourth career double-double against 15th-ranked Kentucky Sunday afternoon inside the Curb Event Center.
Â
Putting together her finest performance of the season to date, Jones scored a season-high 24 points on 6-for-11 shooting, including knocking down four of her nine three-point attempts. Jones also grabbed a season-best 10 rebounds, distributed a team-high five assists and came up with a game-high three steals. She was a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line and scored 10 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter.
Â
A native of Troy, Alabama (Charles Henderson HS), Jones has scored in double figures in four of her last five outings. Sunday's showing was Jones' 80th career double-figure scoring game.
Â
Only the 11th Bruin to reach 1,500 career points, Jones is just 25 steals away from becoming Belmont's all-time steals leader. Already the Bruins' NCAA era steals leader (380), Jones has played in (147) and started (146) more games than any other player in program history. She ranks third among active career steals leaders across all divisions of college basketball.
Â
Jones was also selected as MVC Player of the Week on Feb. 3 last season and on March 11, 2024. The player of the week award is Belmont's first of the season.
Â
The Bruins begin MVC play Wednesday night with the University of Evansville visiting the Curb for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff. The game will be broadcast on
ESPN+. On Saturday afternoon, Belmont wraps up its strenuous non-conference slate and a four-game homestand with the Atlantic Coast Conference's Duke making its way to the Music City.
