Men's Basketball Plays Richmond Wednesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont men's basketball returns to game action Wednesday vs. Richmond.
 
The Bruins (8-0) defeated College of Charleston Nov. 30. Tyler Lundblade led four Belmont players in double figures with 18 points.
 
The 6-5 guard made 15 3-point field goals in three games this past week, including six 3-pointers in a season-high 22 points vs. Toledo. He was named Coconut Hoops Tournament Most Valuable Player and MVC Player of the Week Monday.
 
Lundblade, who led the nation in 3-point field goal percentage last season, currently ranks fourth nationally in 3-point field goals made and eighth nationally in 3-point field goals per game.
 
Belmont completed an undefeated November for the first time since its 37-2 season of 1994-95.
 
Freshman Jack Smiley scored a career-high 17 points in 13 minutes vs. Saint Francis in the Coconut Hoops opening game. The 6-2 guard has 36 points and nine assists this season.
 
Sam Orme had 51 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, five blocked shots, and three steals in three games this past week. He had 18 points and five rebounds at College of Charleston.
 
Nic McClain has been outstanding in the second half this season; shooting 60 percent from the field with 21 rebounds, five steals, and 36 assists. He had 12 points, nine rebounds, and a career-high 11 assists at College of Charleston.
 
Brigham Rogers recorded his first career double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds Nov. 21. The 6-9 forward has 14 double figure scoring games.
 
Drew Scharnowski had a career-high five blocked shots at College of Charleston.
 
Belmont handed out 46 assists on 69 made field goals during Coconut Hoops.
 
Belmont ranks third nationally in field goal percentage defense, 13^th nationally in defensive rebounds per game, and 66^th nationally in turnovers forced per game.
 
Belmont went 22-11 last season. The Bruins' 40 conference wins over the last three seasons rank third in the MVC.
 
With 20 conference championships and 361 conference wins – second only to Gonzaga – over the past two decades, Belmont is poised for another strong season.
 
The Bruins have 11 returning players, including guard Tyler Lundblade and forwards Sam Orme and Brigham Rogers who were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Preseason Watch List.

• Matt Norlander of CBS Sports picked Belmont to win the Missouri Valley Conference and had the Bruins ranked No. 84 nationally in his preseason rankings. Belmont was picked fifth in the MVC Preseason Poll and third by Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook.
• Missouri Valley Conference teams are 13-4 in their first game in the NCAA tourney dating back to 2012. The league has combined for 21 wins in the NCAA Tournament in the past 12 NCAA championships and has had multiple bids 16 times since 1994.

 
Tyler Lundblade is the only player in college basketball to walk-on and earn a scholarship at three different schools (SMU, TCU, Belmont).
 
Belmont guard Aidan Noyes spent his first three seasons at Richmond. Noyes had 27 game appearances and seven starts for Richmond.
 
Richmond director of tennis Houston Barrick is the son of Belmont associate athletic director Steve Barrick.
 
Belmont has played against Richmond roster members Jaden Daughtry (Indiana State) and Will Johnston (Loyola Marymount).
 
This marks the third meeting between Belmont and Richmond.
 
Belmont won, 93-86, Dec. 14, 2024. Jonathan Pierre had 28 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.
