NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A win at the top doubles spot was the Belmont University women's tennis team's lone bright spot late Friday afternoon indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Center against Austin Peay. The Bruins (1-3) had two match points to clinch the doubles point at No. 2 doubles but couldn't convert either as the visiting Governors (2-4) swept singles play for a 7-0 triumph.
The senior duo of
Anastasiya Zholdakova and
Aly Getty defeated Austin Peay's Sophia Baranov and Denise Torrealba 6-3 at No. 1 doubles as senior
Viktoria Kliimand and sophomore
Hana Sokolovic took a 5-3 lead on the Governors' Luca Bohlen and Pauline Bruns on court two. However, Kliimand and Sokolovic had their service broken and were forced to try to win it in a tiebreaker. Austin Peay's Bohlen and Bruns prevailed in the seven-point tiebreak, 7-4.
The Governors won at No. 3 doubles, 6-0.
In singles action, Austin Peay claimed straight-set victories in all six matches.
Junior
Libbie Hamilton was unable to close out the first set at No. 5 singles against Bruns after winning the first three games of the match. Her 6-4, 6-3 score was the closest Belmont came on any of the six courts.

The Bruins make the short trip down to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Saturday to take on Middle Tennessee. First serve from the Adams Tennis Complex is set for 1 p.m. Next weekend, Belmont hosts Western Kentucky Friday and Southeast Missouri State Saturday at the Ensworth Tennis Center.
