Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Downs Alcorn State 6-1 on the Road Friday

Bruins Dominant Throughout Singles Lineup, Nearly Sweep

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Snapping a three-match slide, the Belmont University men's tennis team picked up a dominant 6-1 road victory Friday against Alcorn State. The Bruins (3-4) claimed five straight-set wins in singles after taking No. 2 and No. 3 doubles at the Hall's Ferry Road Tennis Courts in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

The tandem of junior Eli Mizerski and senior Diego Castro won their doubles match on court three with ease, defeating the Braves' Yangho Park and David Leon 6-2. Meanwhile, Alcorn State (3-5) evened doubles play with a 6-3 win at the top spot by the Braves' Emmanuel Cottle and Fabian Juarez over sophomore Stefan Vedovelli and freshman Esteban Ortiz.

However, junior Esunge Ndumbe and freshman Charlie Robin finished off the important doubles point with a 6-4 triumph over Alcorn State's Nikola Kijac and Tomas Grime at the No. 2 spot.

Wasting little time in clinching the match in singles, Belmont got convincing wins throughout its lineup. Castro at No. 4 singles, Vedovelli at No. 5 singles and Ortiz at No. 6 singles all conceded only two games each at their respective positions.

At the top of the singles lineup, Ndumbe topped the Braves' Cottle 6-0, 6-3, while junior Sabi Roi handled Alcorn State's Leon 6-1, 6-3.

The Braves' lone point of the day came at No. 3 singles where Robin cruised to a 6-2 opening set win against Alcorn State's Kijac before falling 6-4 in the second set and being edged 10-4 in a third-set super tiebreaker.
