BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Closing out its weekend stay in Birmingham, Alabama, the Belmont University women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss at the University of Alabama at Birmingham Sunday. The Bruins (1-2) were unable to get a set win anywhere throughout their lineup as the Blazers (4-3) took the top two doubles matches and swept all six singles in straight sets.

UAB's Klara Kajabova and Vanessa Mellynchuk clinched the doubles point for the hosts at the top spot with a 6-4 result against seniors
Anastasiya Zholdakova and
Aly Getty. Junior
Libbie Hamilton and freshman
Sarah McElrath were knotted at 4-4 with the Blazers' Kristyna Damaskova and Maria Paz Ospina at No. 3 doubles, but the match went unfinished due to the point being clinched on court one.

In singles action, Zholdakova was competitive with UAB's Mellynchuk at the top spot where she won eight games in a 6-3, 7-5 affair.

At No. 5 singles, Hamilton forced a 6-4 opening set against the Blazers' Nera Tesankic but fell 6-1 in the second set.

Belmont returns to the Music City next weekend, hosting Austin Peay late Friday afternoon before heading down to Middle Tennessee Saturday afternoon. First serve Friday versus the Governors is scheduled for 4 p.m. from the Ensworth Tennis Center in Nashville. Saturday's match against the Blue Raiders is set for 1 p.m. in Murfreesboro.
