NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont men's tennis team swept Southern Indiana 7-0 in their Horizon League opener Saturday afternoon at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex on the Belmont campus.Â
Belmont picked up the first point of the match as they earned wins in two of three doubles matches. After losing at the number one position, junior
Esunge Ndumbe and freshman
Charlie Robin beat Eytan Michaeli and Quinten Gillespie at number two 6-4. Then at three, senior
Diego Castro and junior
Eli Mizerski defeated Mathys Bove and Adam Koon 6-3.Â
In singles, the Bruins posted wins at all six matches to clinch the 7-0 victory over the Screaming Eagles. At one, Robin outlasted Bove in three sets: 6-4, 6-7, 10-7. Then at two, Ndumbe prevailed over Axel Sabourin in three sets: 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.
At three, junior
Sabi Roi beat Michaeli in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. Then, Castro won at four over Jy Hibbert 7-6, 6-4.
Freshman
Stefan Vedovelli picked up a win at five over Gillespie 6-1, 7-5, while Mizerski defeated Adam Koon 6-1, 6-2.Â
The men's tennis team (7-10, 1-0 HL) is back on the courts next Saturday, March 29 as they host Eastern Illinois for Senior Day at 2:00pm.Â
