NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team picked up a win in their MVC opener as they defeated UNI 5-2 Saturday morning at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex on the Belmont campus.
The Bruins picked up their first point of the match as they swept all three doubles matches. At position one, senior Viki Kliimand and sophomore
Hana Sokolovic beat Lorena Cardoso and Darta Dalecka 7-6. Then at two, freshman
Sarah McElrath and senior
Anastasiya Zholdakova outlasted Andjela Razantovic and Kim Zizek 7-5. Then at three, senior
Aly Getty and junior
Libbie Hamilton beat Kanyanut Sudsaard and Abbie Peterson 7-5.
Then in singles, Belmont posted wins in four of the six matches to clinch the 5-2 victory in their conference opener. At one, Zholdakova outlasted Dalecka in three sets: 6-4, 5-7, 10-3. Then, Kliimand won at two over Cardoso 6-3, 6-2.Â
Getty won at number five over Sudsaard 6-0, 6-3, while McElrath beat Peterson 6-3, 6-4 at number six.
The women's tennis team (2-11, 1-0 MVC) is back on the court tomorrow morning (Sunday) as they host Drake at 10:00am at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex.Â
