NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont women's tennis team won their second straight match as they defeated Drake 6-1 Sunday afternoon in Nashville.Â
The match started outdoors on the Belmont campus, before bad weather forced the match to be completed indoors at the Ensworth Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs took the early 1-0 lead as they won two out of three in doubles. The lone Belmont win came at number one as senior
Viktoria Kliimand and sophomore
Hana Sokolovic defeated Elizabete Klavinska and Jessica Popiol 6-2.
Then in singles, the Bruins swept all six matches to clinch a 6-1 victory over Drake.Â
At one,
Anastasiya Zholdakova won in straight sets over Jessica Popiol 6-1, 6-3. Then, Kliimand outlasted Klavinska in three sets: 3-6, 6-4, 7-6.Â
Sokolovic picked up the victory at number three as she defeated Shiori Takeda 6-3, 6-4.Â
Junior
Libbie Hamilton won at number four in three sets over Tess Caldicott 6-7, 6-2, 6-3.Â
At five, senior
Aly Getty beat Jana Ruzic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, while at six, freshman
Sarah McElrath defeated Nicole Lee 6-4, 6-2.
Sunday's victory marked the Bruins' third straight win over the Bulldogs.
The women's tennis team (3-11, 2-0) will be back in action at home this Saturday as they host Valparaiso in a 10:00am match.
