NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Belmont University Softball Program (24-10, 8-3 MVC) fell 0-3 to Southern Illinois (18-15, 10-1 MVC) on Saturday.
How it Happened
Both teams struggled to get their offense going in the first two innings leaving the score at 0-0 heading into the third.
SIU added a pair of runs in the top of the third to take an 0-2 lead.
Nicole Hughes led off the fourth for the Bruins with the team's first hit of the day on a single to right. Belmont was unable bring her home leaving the deficit at two heading into the fifth.
The Bruins and Salukis both faced a three up, three down fifth inning.
Rylee Spindler reached base in the bottom of the sixth after a walk but couldn't reach home. Belmont entered the seventh inning down two.
SIU would add another run in the top of the seventh. In an attempt to rally,
Emma Barnes hit a single to left to get Belmont started in the bottom of the inning. The Bruins would eventually fall 0-3 in the series finale.
