Three Men's Basketball Players Named to All-MVC Teams

Pierre, Whitt, Orme Honored

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Three Belmont University men's basketball players were honored as part of the 2025 All-Missouri Valley Conference teams, the league office announced Wednesday.
 
Jonathan Pierre was named First Team All-MVC and All-Newcomer Team, Carter Whitt was named Third Team All-MVC and All-Newcomer Team, and Sam Orme was named All-Freshman Team.
 
Pierre emerged as one of the most versatile offensive players in the MVC, showcasing a rare blend of scoring, playmaking, and rebounding. The 6-9 forward ranks among MVC leaders in eight statistical categories, including third in defensive rebounds, sixth in assist/turnover ratio and 3-point field goals.
 
The Hallandale, Florida native has 23 double figure scoring games this season, including at Richmond where he provided a career-high 28 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists. Pierre had three double-doubles, seven games of 20 or more points, and went over 1,000 career points vs. Missouri State Feb. 8.
 
Pierre also delivered several late-game performances and heroic baskets, including the game-winning conventional 3-point play at Bradley Feb. 5. He is among select company in college basketball to average at least 14 points, six rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
 
Whitt has been an undeniable leader and clutch performer for the Bruins. The 6-3 guard leads Belmont with 25 double figure scoring games, including a career-high 25 points at Indiana State and Big West Conference champion UC Irvine.
 
The Raleigh, North Carolina embraced the moment time and again, with numerous late-game performances that will long be remembered. Whitt scored or assisted on 16 straight points down the stretch to help Belmont defeat ASUN champion Lipscomb, made decisive baskets against Indiana State and Southern Illinois, and made the game-winning shot vs. Illinois State Dec. 4 which earned him ESPN SportsCenter top play honors.
 
Whitt ranks among MVC leaders in five statistical categories, including second in assists and sixth in steals. He leads the league in assists since Feb. 1, at nearly 7.5 per game. Whitt had a Curb Event Center record 15 assists vs. Missouri State Feb. 8.
 
Pierre and Whitt are one of just four sets of teammates nationally to lead their team in scoring and each record over 100 assists this season (Arizona, Hofstra, Northern Arizona).
 
Despite missing six games during conference play, Orme established himself as one of the top freshmen in the league. The 6-9 forward has posted 10 double figure scoring games, including a career-high 20 points at Illinois State Jan. 29. His polished all-around game and shooting played huge roles in Belmont victories over Lipscomb, Middle Tennessee, Murray State, and Missouri State.
 
The Carmel, Indiana native ranks among team leaders in offensive rebounds and blocked shots.
 
Belmont (21-10) returns to game action Friday in the MVC tournament.
 
Belmont University men's basketball has been a postseason fixture for the last two decades, including nine berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 20 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (behind Gonzaga and Kansas). Belmont has won 20 or more games in 15 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga and Oregon, Kansas can join) and 19 or more games in 20 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga, Kansas, and San Diego State). Belmont is among select programs with two or more first-round selections in the NBA Draft over the last five years (Ben Sheppard, Dylan Windler). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 19 Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is the only NCAA Division I program to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of its existence. Belmont is the only NCAA Division I institution in America whose men's and women's basketball programs have won 20 or more games in nine consecutive seasons.
