Baseball Downs Little Rock in Series Opener

Pryor Fans Eight; Bruins Record 11 Hits in 6-3 Win

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Belmont (3-11) and Little Rock (5-8) kicked off their weekend series Friday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. The Bruins jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first three innings. Will Pryor drove the energy bus for the Bruins with his season-high 6.2 innings and eight strikeouts, as the Bruins fended off the Trojans to win the series opener 6-3.

Pete Daniel led off the first inning with a single and stole second. Charlie Davis drove Daniel in on a double to center field. Blake Barton lined a single to left field that scored Davis. Belmont led 2-0 after the first half inning.
 
Little Rock answered with an RBI single from Ryan Geck in the home half. Belmont led 2-1 heading into the second inning.
 
Daniel and Davies hit back-to-back singles to start the third inning. Landon Godsey doubled to right-center field and brought both runners home. Mike Sprockett followed suit with a double to the left field wall. The Bruins' three runs on four hits gave them a 5-1 lead.
 
Little Rock tagged two solo home runs by Aiden Mcginnis and Cade Martin in the seventh inning. The Bruins' lead was cut to 5-3.
 
Belmont added an insurance run in the eighth inning on Kaden Galson's RBI single.

  • Will Pryor tossed 6.2 innings and recorded eight strikeouts, both season highs. Pryor earned his first win of the season.
  • Andrew Perry retired all three batters he faced and picked up a strikeout.
  • Ethan Harden earned the first save by a Belmont pitcher this season. Harden slammed the door on the Trojans with a 1-2-3 ninth inning highlighted by a pair of punchouts.
  • Pete Daniel tied his career high with three hits, a mark previously hit on Feb. 18 at Tennessee Tech. He stole two bases for the first time in his career.
  • Charlie Davis tied Daniel for a team-high three hits and scored twice. The second baseman hit an RBI double and stole a base.
  • Blake Barton recorded two base knocks and an RBI.
  • Mike Sprockett threw a runner out in the second inning.
Belmont and Little Rock are back in action tomorrow afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. First pitch has been moved up to 12 p.m. CT due to forecasted rain. Fans can watch the action on ESPN+.
