Baseball, Timbes Shines in 10-1 Series-Clinching Victory Over Bradley

Belmont Stater Strikes Out Career-High 10 Batters, Bruins Score Eight in Ninth Inning

PEORIA, Ill. – Belmont (16-12, 6-5 MVC) faced Bradley (4-26, 0-11 MVC) in game two of the weekend series at Dozer Park Saturday afternoon. Starting pitcher Jake Timbes kept the Braves quiet for six innings – Belmont's bullpen provided enough support – until the Bruins hung an eight-spot on the board in the ninth inning to win the game, 10-1.
 
Scoring Action
  • Bradley hit a solo home run in the second inning.
  • Blake Barton hit a sacrifice fly that scored Gardner Lawrence in the fourth inning.
  • Charlie Davis gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning. Davis laid down a sacrifice bunt down the first-base line that scored Galason.
  • The Bruins' offense erupted in the ninth inning for eight runs. The scoring began with a bunt single from Michael Lareau that scored Maddox. Pete Daniel reached on a fielder's choice that scored Galason. Charlie Davis hit an RBI single. Ty Allen put a ball in play that scored Daniel on an error. Mike Sprockett hit an RBI single. Galason and Lareau drew both drew bases-loaded walks. Belmont won the game 10-1.
Bruin Bullets
  • Jake Timbes earned his second win of the season. Timbes threw a season-high six innings and struck out a career-high 10 batters. The right-hander was efficient, allowing just one home run and no free passes. He retired the final 12 batters he faced.
  • Andrew Perry tossed two hitless innings and recorded a strikeout.
  • Krish Gandhi tossed a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
  • Pete Daniel extended his hit streak to 13 games with two hits and a run.
  • Charlie Davis went 3-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base.
  • Michael Lareau had another multi-hit performance, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
  • Nine Bruins notched a hit in the game.
