Men's Basketball Welcomes Nic McClain

Talented, Experienced Guard Follows Footsteps of Older Brother Kevin

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball head coach Casey Alexander announced Thursday the signing of Nic McClain to play basketball for the Bruins, starting in the fall of 2025. "Nic is a physical guard and his size will serve us well in the Missouri Valley Conference," Alexander said. "You can see the progress and development Nic has made with each passing season, including his play last season. We love Nic's family and it is wonderful to have another McClain wear the Belmont uniform. We are anticipating a great senior season for Nic at Belmont."
 
The 6-3 guard made 30 game appearances and 21 starts this past season for Eastern Washington. McClain averaged 10.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.9 steals per game.
 
The Jennings, Florida native had 15 double figure scoring games, and played his best basketball against top competition. McClain posted 24 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and three assists vs. Washington State, had 16 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals at Colorado, and 15 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals at Washington.
 
In all, McClain averaged 15.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 3.0 steals, and 6.4 free throw attempts per game against NET ranking quad one and quad two opponents.
 
He scored a season-high 28 points vs. Cal Poly Nov. 17, 2024.
 
McClain was an all-conference performer at Daytona State College in 2022-23. He was named to the DI FCSAA/NJCAA Region 8 All-Tournament Team after a near triple-double in postseason.
 
McClain is the younger brother of former Belmont standout guard, NCAA Tournament, and UCLA victory hero Kevin McClain ('19).

Belmont University men's basketball has been a postseason fixture for the last two decades, including nine berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 20 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (behind Gonzaga and Kansas). Belmont has won 20 or more games in 15 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga, Kansas, and Oregon) and 19 or more games in 20 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga, Kansas, and San Diego State). Belmont is among select programs with two or more first-round selections in the NBA Draft over the last five years (Ben Sheppard, Dylan Windler). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 19 Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is the only NCAA Division I program to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of its existence. Belmont is the only NCAA Division I institution in America whose men's and women's basketball programs have won 20 or more games in nine consecutive seasons.
