Baseball’s Season Ends Against No. 2 Missouri State

Bruins Fall to Bears in High-Scoring Elimination Game

NORMAL, Ill. – No. 6 Belmont (26-34) and No. 2 Missouri State (29-24) squared off in an elimination game Friday afternoon in the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Baseball Championship. Scoring wasn't a problem for either team, as the Bruins and Bears combined for 30 runs, 29 hits and five home runs. Despite Belmont's early lead, the MVC regular-season co-champions never went away and continued to put runs on the scoreboard. The Bears defeated the Bruins 20-10 in seven innings.
 
Scoring Action
  • Landon Godsey hit an RBI double in the first inning, scoring Ty Allen.
  • Missouri State took a 2-1 lead in the first on a two-run home run.
  • The Bears added to their lead in the second inning. An RBI single and RBI double – with a throwing error on the play – plated three more runs for Missouri State. The Bears led 5-1 after two innings.
  • Godsey got Belmont back on the board in the third inning with his second RBI double of the game. Blake Barton hit a bases-clearing double over the centerfielder's head to tie the game, 5-5.
  • Godsey gave the Bruins a 6-5 lead in the fourth inning, with an RBI double – his third of the game – down the left-field line. Mike Sprockett's RBI single and Barton's sacrifice fly made it an 8-5 Belmont advantage
  • Missouri State scored eight runs in the fourth inning. The Bears retook a 13-8 lead after the fourth inning.
  • The Bears added five more runs in the fifth inning, expanding their lead to 18-8.
  • Michael Lareau hit a solo home run to left-center field in the sixth inning. Belmont trailed 18-9.
  • Missouri State hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, growing their lead to 20-9.
  • Ty Allen hit a solo shot to left-center field in the seventh inning. Missouri State prevailed 20-10 in seven innings.
