Belmont Athletics Ranks Among the Nation's Best in NCAA APR Scores

Belmont's 17 sports averaged a 992 out of 1000 APR score.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Belmont University's athletic teams performed among the nation's best as the NCAA released its annual NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate report on Tuesday.

Six Belmont teams - men's basketball, men's golf, men's tennis, women's cross country, women's soccer, and women's track – received NCAA Public Recognition Awards, each earned a perfect 1000 APR score.

Belmont's 17 sponsored sports averaged an incredible 992 out of 1000 APR score and the Bruins have earned 86 NCAA APR Public Recognition Awards since the program's inception.

Men's basketball, which leads the nation in Academic All-America selections over the last two decades, had three players earn Academic All-District honors this season: Tyler Lundblade, Brigham Rogers, and Isaiah Walker

Men's golf earned the award for a sixth consecutive year and has earned the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team 15 consecutive years. Belmont had three men's golfers named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team this week.

Men's tennis had one athlete earn Horizon League All-Academic honors, Diego Castro, as the team won the conference tournament title and earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament.

Women's cross country has earned NCAA APR honors for the third straight year and annually ranks among NCAA leaders in team grade-point average and academic all-conference honorees. In fact, five Bruins were named to the 2024 MVC Cross Country Scholar-Athlete Team.

Women's soccer earned a seventh NCAA Public Recognition List nod. The Bruins had six CSC Academic All-District® recipients last fall: Allison Brockelman, Abbigail Legg, Anna Samuel, Lillie Tabor, Kate Virtel, and Kennedy Wise

Women's track & field has five total awards, as the program charts new territory in every aspect. A remarkable 10 Bruins were named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team last spring.

In December, Belmont ranked first in the Missouri Valley Conference with a graduation success rate of 97 percent, which was among the top-25 of all Division I institutions.  This marks the 11th-straight year that Belmont has finished in the top-25 nationally.

Belmont University has claimed a conference academic achievement award 21 of the last 23 academic years, including every year of membership in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Each academic year, every Division I sports team across the country calculates its APR using a simple and consistent formula. Each term, scholarship student-athletes can earn 1 point for remaining eligible and 1 point for staying in school or graduating. For schools that do not offer scholarships, recruited student-athletes are tracked.

The Academic Performance Program (APP) has established an essential framework for academic excellence. The program provides measurable goals to ensure schools are fulfilling their commitment of equipping student-athletes with the tools and resources necessary to achieve academic success.
