NASSAU, Bahamas – Further expanding its recent participation in nationally-recognized Thanksgiving week tournaments, the Belmont University women's basketball team has been selected as one of eight teams for the 2025 Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship. Announced by veteran sports promoter bdG Sports Wednesday afternoon, the Bruins are one of seven confirmed teams who will be playing in the two-day late-November tournament, held Monday, Nov. 24 and Wednesday, Nov. 26 at the Baha Mar Convention, Arts & Entertainment Center.
In addition to Belmont, the elite tournament field will include Alabama, Harvard, Minnesota, Ohio State, South Florida and West Virginia. Including the Bruins, all seven programs made national postseason play last season with the Crimson Tide, Crimson, Buckeyes, Bulls and Mountaineers reaching the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Belmont was runner-up in the 2025 Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT), while the Golden Gophers won the national postseason tournament.
Once the eighth team is added to the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship, the tournament will feature two separate, four-team divisions resulting in two champions being crowned. Matchups and game times will be announced later, and all eight games of the tournament will be streamed live.
"We are excited and proud to showcase a top-tier brand of hoops in the Bahamas once again as we continue to grow and expand women's basketball and our events," college basketball analyst and event contributor Debbie Antonelli said. "I'm known for saying, 'The Product is the Narrative' because we create opportunities to compete, and the players and coaches deliver. Teams are returning because they trust bdG Sports to deliver another first-class event in an incredible destination location, and rest assured, it will be entertaining given the quality of competition!"
Last year, national champion UConn and NCAA Tournament regional finalist LSU won their respective four-team divisions of the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship.
Alabama (2022), Ohio State (2023) and South Florida (2021) will return to Baha Mar after competing in the Pink Flamingo Championship when it featured a non-bracketed format.
The Bruins have played in a prestigious MTE (multi-team event) over Thanksgiving week each of the last three seasons. Last November, Belmont defeated Davidson College and took receiving-votes Michigan to the brink in Fort Myers, Florida, at the 2024 Elevance Health Fort Myers Tip-Off. In 2023, the Bruins visited Las Vegas for the Ball Dawgs Classic where they dominated the Big Ten Conference's Northwestern and tested top-five ranked Stanford. Belmont also traveled to the Sunshine State in 2022 for the Gulf Coast Showcase, which was held just south of Fort Myers in Estero, Florida, and had close battles with top-25 ranked Villanova and Atlantic Coast Conference member Georgia Tech while topping Saint Louis.
Under head coach
Bart Brooks, who is entering his ninth season at the helm, the Bruins are 5-7 in MTE games and 25-17 in neutral-site matchups.
One of only nine programs in the nation to have won 20-plus games for 10 consecutive seasons, Belmont went 26-13 last season and reached the WBIT championship game after defeating BIG EAST Conference mainstay Villanova in the semifinals inside historic Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Bruins also reached the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament championship game and put together an impressive 45-point, 90-45 road rout of NCAA Tournament bubble team James Madison in the WBIT quarterfinals.
Having claimed seven national postseason wins in the last five years, Belmont has earned a national postseason bid in 12 of the last 13 seasons dating back to 2012-13.
The Bruins return eight letter winners for the 2025-26 season while welcoming seven newcomers.
