NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the 28th edition of the Battle of the Boulevard on the men's soccer pitch, Belmont University delivered a 2-0 victory in between thunderstorms Sunday night on the south end of Belmont Boulevard. Goals from senior captain midfielder
Brad Dildy and freshman forward
Jaxon Stokes highlighted the Bruins' road triumph over nearby rival Lipscomb as Belmont overcame an over one-and-a-half-hour weather delay due to lightning in the first half.
Â
With the late-night win, the Bruins extend their program-best unbeaten streak, which dates back to October of last year, to 10.
Â
Belmont (5-0-3) is unbeaten through its first eight matches of the season for the first time ever.
Â
Freshman midfielder
Paul Claes Nielsen found Dildy in the box in the 29th minute to put the Bruins up 1-0. Dildy beat his man and worked the ball around the Bisons' goalkeeper for his inaugural Belmont goal.
Following the extended weather delay and halftime, Claes Nielsen once again fed a Bruin in the open space in the 58th minute. This time, Claes Nielsen found Stokes on the left flank who drove the ball to the box and sent in an absolute scorcher from the 18-yard line.
Lipscomb reserve midfielder Levi Jones attempted to get the Bisons on the board in the 65th minute but graduate goalkeeper
Grant Calvert denied the home team the score with an outstanding save. The moment was Lipscomb's lone shot on target for the night.
Belmont scored on two of its four shots on goal while the Bisons tallied 13 total shots. The Bruins finished with 11 shots and earned four second-half corner kicks.
Â
Lipscomb (1-5-2) was issued four yellow cards.
Â
The clean sheet at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex is Belmont's fourth road shutout of the season.
