Men's Tennis Sweeps Austin Peay in Home Opener Friday Evening

Bruins Earn First Victory of 2026, 7-0, at the Ensworth Tennis Center

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In its home opener Friday evening at the Ensworth Tennis Center in Nashville, the Belmont University men's tennis team secured its first win of 2026 with a 7-0 sweep of visiting Austin Peay. The Bruins (1-2) needed less than 35 minutes to take a 1-0 lead in the match by securing the doubles point, before earning victories on all six singles courts.

The Governors (0-1) took only one set off Belmont in singles play as the Bruins were dominant throughout their lineup.

The tandem of graduate Will Ecklund and sophomore Charlie Robin were first off the court in doubles action, giving up only two games in a 6-2 win over Austin Peay's Vincent Lu and Zijia Liu at the No. 2 spot. At No. 1 doubles, the duo of senior Sabi Roi and junior Stefan Vedovelli claimed a 6-3 win against the Governors' Rohan Loubser and Logan Tomovski.

Sophomore Morgan Woodson and senior Eli Mizerski were leading 5-4 against Austin Peay's Lucas Ranciaro and Bodi van Galen at No. 3 doubles when the coveted opening point was clinched.

Mizerski surrendered just one game to the Governors' Liu at the sixth position with Belmont's first singles triumph of the evening, 6-0, 6-1.

Making his debut in the Bruins' lineup, freshman Bautista Durrels Rojo was second off the court with a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Austin Peay's Felipe De La Hormaza at No. 4 singles.

Roi at the top singles spot, sophomore Esteban Ortiz at No. 5 singles and Robin at second singles were all straight-set victors.

Woodson closed the match with a tightly-contested, 10-8 super tiebreaker victory in a decisive third set at No. 3 singles. He had topped the Governors' Tomovski 6-2 in the opening set before falling 6-4 in the second.

Up Next
Due to the forecasted winter storm in the Music City this weekend, Belmont will have just over a week off from match action before hosting Alabama A&M at the Ensworth Tennis Center next Saturday, Jan. 31. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. The Bruins were originally scheduled to take on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Saturday at home and travel to Middle Tennessee Sunday, but the forecasted adverse winter weather forced both matches to be postponed to dates to be determined.
