NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a tough competition at Notre Dame's Joe Piane Invitational, the Belmont Women's Cross Country team is set to compete at the Crimson Classic hosted by the University of Alabama on Friday, Oct. 16.
The Bruins head south following a 17th-place finish at Notre Dame, where freshman
Isabella Harte led the team, followed by
Sophie Nicholls,
Lilie Fouts,
Sienna Anderson, and
Clara Crain.
Â
"The biggest thing to note is that this is our first race at the 6K distance," says Assistant Coach
Grant O'Callaghan. "We have a younger team, for a lot of them it's their first time running the 6K."
Â
O'Callaghan hopes that the Crimson Classic will allow the Bruins to become familiar with the slightly more conservative pacing required for a longer race, and to build confidence heading into the post-season.
In Tuscaloosa, they'll again face some of the top teams in the nation, including South Region competitors Auburn, Alabama, Georgia Tech, and Kennesaw State.
The meet will also provide a valuable opportunity for Belmont to gauge its position going into the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Friday, Oct. 30.
Â
The women's 6K race is scheduled for 9:20 a.m. CST at Harry Pritchett Running Park, following the men's 8K at 8:30 a.m.
