Women's Cross Country Takes on Crimson Classic

Belmont Places 9th in Tuscaloosa

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Belmont Women's Cross Country team finished 9th out of 19 teams at the Crimson Classic, hosted at the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Bruins raced against some of the top teams in the nation, including South Region competitors Alabama, Georgia Tech, and Mississippi State.

"I was really proud of the execution," says Coach Grant O'Callaghan. "We consistently moved up throughout the entire race. That's always where we want to be; feeling good, moving up throughout the race, and they did a great job of that today."

Sophie Nicholls and Isabella Harte finished on top for the Bruins, running the 6K in under 21 minutes.

Hannah Clark followed with a time of 22:01.5. After the race, Clark says that she had fun running her first 6K, and was "really happy to do it alongside all my amazing teammates."

Returners Lilie Fouts and Carson Wasemiller rounded out Belmont's top 5.

Clara Crain, who typically places in the top 5 for the Bruins, was unable to attend the event. Another top-5 runner, Sienna Anderson, as well as Callie Kent, both were unable to complete the race. O'Callaghan is hopeful for a healthy team going into conference, but is proud of how the women placed while being down a few runners.

"We only ran four people at this race last year, so I think it speaks a lot to the growth of the program," he says.

Belmont won the MVC Championship in 2023, and placed third in 2024. During the 2025 season, coaching staff made efforts to strengthen the team again after losing valuable graduating seniors.

According to O'Callaghan, the coaches "did a great job of rebolstering up this squad, getting great recruits in, and they've been the game changer, honestly. They show up with the right attitude, they want to be great. They also understand that it's a process and it's going to take us time to get there. So, really excited about the freshman class."

The Bruins will travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the Missouri Valley Championship on Friday, October 30.
