TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Belmont Men's Cross Country team finished 5th out of 14 teams at the Crimson Classic, hosted at the Harry Pritchett Running Park in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.Â
The Bruins raced against some of the top teams in the nation, including South Region competitors Alabama, Georgia Tech, and Auburn.
Liam Powers,
Drew Brill, and
Carson Smith continued their strong seasons, earning the top 3 spots for the Bruins and top-50 placements overall. Powers finished first for the Bruins, crossing the finish line at 25:09.6.
Â
Following the completion of the race, Powers and Smith note the difficulty of the course, and say they're glad they familiarized themselves with the route the day prior.
Â
Head Coach
Jeff Langdon believes that the freshman class is doing well navigating the 8K and difficult courses throughout the season so far.
Noah Mathews also appeared in the Belmont top 5 for the first time this season, with a time of 25:44.4.
Â
Coach Langdon states that the team executed their strategy well. "Our 1 through 5 spread cut down astronomically, so that was a really good sign," says Langdon.Â
Â
All five of Belmont's scorers finished within 35 seconds of each other.
Â
"I think we're still on an upward trajectory as a team, and so we'll see what happens in a couple weeks," says Langdon.Â
Â
The Bruins will travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the Missouri Valley Championship on Friday, October 30.
