Women’s Tennis Splits Doubles Matches Friday to Begin Second Belmont/Lipscomb Hidden Duals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Beginning the second Belmont/Lipscomb Hidden Duals of the fall season late Friday afternoon at Lipscomb's Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center, the Belmont University women's tennis team split six doubles matches. The tandem of junior Jessica Popiol and junior Isabel Pacheco highlighted day one of the three-day tournament as the pair won both of its matches in convincing fashion.
 
Dropping only three combined games across two sets, Popiol and Pacheco downed the Bisons' Kameliia Tytarenko and Laura Ullrich 6-1 before handling Xavier's Natalie Smitek and Ellie Brotherton 6-2.
 
Sophomore Mia Jones and senior Hana Sokolovic also claimed a win Friday, defeating Lipscomb's Matilda Duerig and Leena Hamdan 6-3. In their second match of the day, Jones and Sokolovic were edged 7-5 by the Musketeers' Lilly Black and Sofia Mazzucato.
 
The Bruins will be back in action Saturday morning with two rounds of singles starting at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Both of Belmont's rounds of singles will be played at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex on campus.
 
In Saturday morning's first round of singles, the Bruins will take on players from Xavier and Vanderbilt. In the afternoon's second round, Belmont will face Bellarmine.
