Men's Cross Country Led by Sophomore Frontrunner at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Belmont men's cross country team finished 11th out of 18 teams in a competitive field, loaded with top national talent at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational.

The Bruins raced against national contenders such as Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Clemson, and Indiana.

Sophomore standout Charley Townsend made in impression in his first appearance at Notre Dame, running a personal best time of 23:53.9.

In 2024 when Belmont last participated in the Joe Piane Invite, four Bruins ran sub-24 minute times. All four runners, Carter Cheeseman, Nick Mota, Zac Shaffer, and Andrew Hammel, beat out the previous 8K school record of 23:55.9 which had been held by Jacob McLeod since 2018.

Carter Cheeseman's time of 23:29.8 still currently holds the record.

Two Bruin top-5 finishers, Liam Powers and Jesiah Low, also cut down their times substantially from the Southern Showcase two weeks ago.

Six Bruins finished the course in under 25 minutes.
