Baseball Falls in Series Finale Against UAB

Blazers Get Up Early in the Game; Bruins Unable to Respond

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Belmont baseball dropped the series finale to UAB on Sunday afternoon, falling 12-2 at Young Memorial Field. Despite a slight mid-game surge from the Bruins, UABs' offensive outbursts in the early and late innings proved too much to overcome.

UAB established control early, tagging the Bruins for five runs across the first two frames. However, the definitive turning point occurred in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Belmont trailing 5-0, the Bruin pitching staff looked for a shutdown inning to keep the game within reach. Instead, UAB mounted a two-out rally, punctuated by a series of walks and a critical three-run double that extended the lead to 9-0. This four-run explosion effectively broke the game open, forcing the Bruins into a steep uphill battle for the remainder of the afternoon.

Belmont refused to go quietly, finding the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning. Brody Langlotz sparked the rally with a disciplined walk and advanced on a hit by pitch on Nate Webb. Senior Charlie Davis then delivered a clutch RBI single to right field, scoring Langlotz and breaking the shutout. Later in the frame, Landon Godsey brought home another run with a fielder's choice, cutting the deficit to 9-2.

The Bruins' bullpen provided some stability in the middle frames, with Zane Brown and Owen Marsh combining to strike out the side in the seventh to momentarily silence the Blazer bats. Offensively, Cavan McMeans remained a bright spot, finishing the day with a multi-hit performance, including a hard-hit single through the left side in the eighth inning.

However, the Blazers added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to trigger the run rule and seal the 12-2 victory.
