Men's Tennis Earns 5-2 Horizon League Home Win Over Southern Indiana Thursday

Bruins Pick Up First Conference Victory of 2026

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Securing its first Horizon League win of the season, the Belmont University men's tennis team defeated visiting Southern Indiana 5-2 Thursday afternoon at the Beaman Family Tennis Complex on campus. The Bruins (7-8, 1-1 Horizon) won the key doubles point with ease and followed up their superb doubles play by taking four of the six singles matches, including three in straight sets.

Belmont's No. 3 doubles tandem of senior Eli Mizerski and sophomore Morgan Woodson clinched the first point with a 6-2 triumph against the Screaming Eagles' Mathys Bove and Adam Koon. Moments prior, graduate Will Ecklund and sophomore Charlie Robin finished off Southern Indiana's Kalani Hibbert and Axel Sabourin 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.

At the top of the doubles lineup, junior Stefan Vedovelli and senior Sabi Roi were leading the Screaming Eagles' Jy Hibbert and Aaron Dawson 4-3 when Mizerski and Woodson put the Bruins up 1-0.

Roi wasted no time in giving Belmont a 2-0 lead with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 singles performance versus Southern Indiana's Sabourin on court one.

The Screaming Eagles (4-10, 0-2 Horizon) collected their first point courtesy of Jy Hibbert, who topped freshman Bautista Durrels Rojo 6-1, 6-3 at the fourth position. However, the Bruins got within a match of clinching with Ecklund handling Southern Indiana's Kalani Hibbert 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

Robin clinched the match on court two as he downed the Screaming Eagles' Dawson 6-4, 6-3.

Belmont was also triumphant in the final match of the afternoon after Southern Indiana's Bove got past Woodson, 6-3, 6-2, at the No. 3 singles spot. Wrapping up the day, Mizerski outlasted the Screaming Eagles' Koon at the fifth singles position. Mizerski prevailed 10-4 in a third-set super tiebreaker after bouncing back from a 6-4 first set loss with a 6-2 set two victory.
