Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Wins Second Straight on the Road, Defeats Wofford 5-2 Thursday Afternoon

Bruins Claim Victories at Five of Six Singles Positions

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Winning its second consecutive match in South Carolina, the Belmont University men's tennis team earned a 5-2 victory at Wofford Thursday afternoon in Spartanburg. Despite dropping the doubles point, the Bruins (4-7) won five of the six singles matches to complete a 2-0 week in the Palmetto State.

The reigning Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week, senior Sabi Roi and junior Stefan Vedovelli, were narrowly edged 7-5 in a tiebreaker at the No. 1 spot as the host Terriers (6-6) clinched the doubles point at the Reeves Tennis Center. At No. 3 doubles, the tandem of senior Eli Mizerski and sophomore Morgan Woodson was handed a 6-4 loss by Wofford's Ian Rasheed and Daniel Clivio.

Graduate Will Ecklund and sophomore Charlie Robin's match at second doubles was knotted at 5-all when the Terriers claimed the opening point.

Singles play, however, was dominated by Belmont. Straight-set wins by Vedovelli at No. 2 singles (6-3, 6-4) and Mizerski at No. 5 singles (6-2, 6-2) put the Bruins up 2-1, before Roi made it 3-1 Belmont with a 6-4, 7-6 (8) triumph over Wofford's Jack Deveney at the No. 3 spot.

Like Vedovelli, Mizerski and Roi, Robin was also victorious in straight sets. At the top of the singles lineup, Robin handled the Terriers' Parker Mariencheck 7-5, 6-4 to secure the dual match win for the Bruins.

The last two matches of the afternoon went into third sets with freshman Bautista Durrels Rojo prevailing 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 against Wofford's Jack Burdell on court six. The Terriers' lone point in singles came at the fourth position where Julian Brager-Carlsen outlasted Woodson 6-3 in the third set.
