VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Belmont University Softball team (30–9, 17–3 MVC) closed out its weekend series with a doubleheader sweep over Valparaiso University on Saturday, completing the three-game series win. The Bruins secured their 30th win of the season and recorded their 15th shutout.
Rylee Spindler led the way with a standout day at the plate, totaling four runs, five hits, three RBIs, including a double, triple, and home run across both games.
VS Valparaiso – Game 2 (5–2)
Belmont was off and running early in the first inning as Madison Dolecki singled to right center to score Spindler and give the Bruins a 1–0 lead.
The Bruins added an extra run in the fourth with an RBI single from Brenna Blume, scoring Emily Konz. In the fifth, Spindler delivered a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4–0.
Belmont added an insurance run in the seventh as Nicole Hughes doubled down the left field line to bring home Spindler, making it 5–0.
Valparaiso found momentum in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Bruins' lead.
In the circle, Maya Johnson earned her 21st win of the season, tossing a complete game while allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out seven.
VS Valparaiso – Game 3 (6–0)
Game two started scoreless until the top of the third as Spindler drove in a run on a single, while two additional runs scored on a Valparaiso error gave the Bruins a 2–0 lead.
The Bruins furthered the lead in the fifth inning when Maddy Balsiger delivered an inside-the-park home run, scoring four runs and extending the lead to 6–0.
In the circle, Ellie Giles was dominant early, striking out four batters in the first two innings and carrying a no-hit bid into the fifth. Giles finished with a career-high six strikeouts across six shutout innings to earn the win, improving to 3–1 on the season. Hannah Leierer closed out the final inning to secure the shutout.
The victory marked Belmont's 15th shutout of the season, continuing a historic year for the pitching staff.
