Brendan Mullins Joins Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

Veteran Coach Brings Wealth of MVC Experience to Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - - Belmont University men's basketball head coach Evan Bradds announced Monday the hire of Brendan Mullins as associate head coach for the Bruin program.
 
Mullins will share the associate head coach title with longstanding Belmont coaching staff member Brian Ayers.

"We are excited to welcome Brendan and his family to Nashville and the Belmont Basketball program," Bradds said. "Coach Mullins brings years of experience within the Missouri Valley Conference. His basketball mind, forward-thinking approach, passion for the game, and dedication to his players will push Belmont to new heights. We are fortunate to have someone of Brendan's credentials join our program and are excited for what is to come."
 
Mullins comes to Belmont with nearly two decades of coaching experience, having spent the previous two seasons at Murray State. He was promoted to associate head coach of the Racer program in 2025-26.
 
Among the most experienced coaches in the Missouri Valley Conference, Mullins has served the coaching staffs of Southern Illinois (2019-24), Illinois State (2017-19), and UIC (2015-17).
 
The Illinois native also spent time at Wright State, Wisconsin-Green Bay, and Mercyhurst.
 
Mullins, regarded as one of the top recruiters in the game, has coached dozens of accomplished players including Marcus Domask, Xavier Johnson, Lance Jones, Troy D'Amico, Antonio Reeves, DJ Horne, Phil Fayne, Milik Yarbrough, Dikembe Dixson, Tai Odiase, Jerran Young, Julius Mays, and Rahmon Fletcher.
 
Mullins was a four-year letterwinner at Saint Michael's College in Vermont and ranks among the most prolific 3-point shooters in program history.
 
He received his bachelor's degree in business administration from Saint Michael's in 2007 and a master's degree in organizational leadership from Mercyhurst in 2009.
 
Mullins and his wife, Alexandria, have one daughter, Madelyn Mae.
 
Mullins' father, Mike, is the director of the Illinois Wolves AAU program.

Belmont University men's basketball has been a postseason fixture for the last two decades, including nine berths to the NCAA Tournament. The Bruins have won 21 conference championships since 2006 - third-most nationally over that span (behind Gonzaga and Kansas). Belmont has won 20 or more games in 16 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga and Kansas) and 19 or more games in 21 consecutive seasons (alongside Gonzaga, Kansas, and San Diego State). Belmont is among select programs with two or more first-round selections in the NBA Draft over the last six years (Ben Sheppard, Dylan Windler). Belmont University men's basketball boasts an NCAA-leading 19 Academic All-America selections since 2001 and is the only NCAA Division I program to make the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) Honor Roll every year of its existence. Belmont is the only NCAA Division I institution in America whose men's and women's basketball programs have won 20 or more games in 11 consecutive seasons.
