Anna Shelnutt Joins Softball Program

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Belmont University softball head coach Laura Matthews announced Wednesday the addition of Anna Shelnutt as an assistant coach on the Bruin softball coaching staff. 

Shelnutt joins Belmont following two seasons as an assistant coach at UAB and brings experience as both a Division I coach and one of the most accomplished players in Florida State softball history. 

"We are so excited to have Anna join our staff," Matthews said. "She is a proven winner who has elevated every program she has been a part of, and we anticipate that with our program as well." 

Most recently, Shelnutt served as an assistant coach at UAB, where she continued to build upon her experience developing hitters, catchers and infielders at the Division I level. 

Prior to UAB, Shelnutt spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Troy. Working primarily with the Trojans' offense, she helped guide the program to 67 wins, including victories over nationally ranked Louisiana and Texas State. During her first season, Shelnutt helped Troy rank among the top five in the Sun Belt Conference in several offensive categories, including runs scored, RBIs, home runs, total bases and slugging percentage. 

A 2018 NCAA National Champion and two-time Women's College World Series participant at Florida State, Shelnutt played for the Seminoles from 2017-21. She was instrumental in Florida State's run to the 2018 national championship, hitting five home runs and driving in 15 runs during the postseason to earn Women's College World Series All-Tournament Team honors. 

One of the most prolific players in program history, Shelnutt finished her career ranked 10th all-time at Florida State with 31 home runs, fifth with a .993 fielding percentage and as the program's all-time leader with 1,211 career putouts. She also earned Second Team All-ACC honors in 2019. 

Shelnutt earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from Florida State before completing her master's degree in sport management.
